Preparing for a PhD
I was searching for word list for German to English translations. As part of that search I found a blog
on preparation toward a PhD. I may potentially consider such a degree but, as an alternative, it helps to know
what to learn in self study.

Writing an Exegetical Paper
I have had to add this section as representing part of my learning process. I will be working through some exegesis papers on my own time. The goal will be to develop the writing skills and mental discipline (manner of approach and thinking) to reasonably communicate at a graduate level in a style and manner familiar to modern scholarship. After working on some exegetical writing, I may then need to find a narrow thesis to develop.
If there is any recommended links (or books or people) on the subject, please let me know. I need any and all the help I can get.

Help on writing/submitting journal articles
I'm trying to locate some resources to help select journals for submission of articles.
The tasks involve discovery of the proper journal, maybe with consideration of the speed that articles are reviewed and published, with considerations whether the journal is peer reviewed. Career-oriented writers would usually want to submit articles to the "A" category journals with peer review and with international distribution. The goal is to get the article quoted. Plus, another consideration would be to verify that the journal has a record of publishing related topics.

Writing Tools and Techniques
I will try to add some tools that are helping me write and share data. Some of the website tools will be documented but mostly this will just describe some methods I use. Other tools may also be included
- php bibliography website tool -- This has been a nice tool to share the bibliography on Romans. Users can select books and articles by chapter of Romans -- see Romans Bibliography
- Open Office software -- I keep a bibliography list in spreadsheet file. I was able to generate some csv (comma separated fields) files to import into my website phpbibliography database. At present, I maintain the two master bibliographies (the phpbibliography and the spreadsheet) with some efforts to match the data between the two.
- Bibus bibliography tool -- This tool helps to import and manage master bibliographies and select bibliographies (including a list as used by your current project) for insertion into Microsoft Word or into Open Office.
- Notabene Research Writing Tool -- This tool is one that should be useful. It wasn't working for Vista when I first tried it. I think their software accomodates certain styles required by journals and hence should make the end work easier.
- bibtexcode.rtf -- a macro for OpenOffice spreadsheet to extract out the bibliography entries into bibtex format. I will try to provide a copy of a spreadsheet later on that will have the sample books included. Right now the output will be to c:\temp

Here are some ideas that seem important in writing whenever possible. In my studies I have sometimes felt that a good
argument was made but still felt like the point was not finished properly.
- Make sure to include some powerful and insightful statements, especially where the topic matter would thrive upon it.
- Generally sentences for important points should be made quotable. Avoid pronouns and other indirect references when making an
important conclusion. People should be able to quote your conclusion rather than having to restate it.
- As much as possible, make sentences quotable even if only addressing minor points toward a theory or conclusion. People should be
able to quote such points rather than having to restate those ideas.
- When making an argument toward a thesis, summarize the intermediate conclusions and make the final conclusion clear. The goal and effect is to make sure they understand where you were going and what results you found -- a reassurance of your intent and expectations.
